MatrixOne Introduces New PLM Environment for Synchronous Workgroup Collaboration
MatrixOne Designer Central Provides Focused Environment for Secure Distribution and Management of the Design Process among the Extended Supply Chain
Westford, Mass., July 11, 2005 MatrixOne, Inc. (NASDAQ: MONEE), a leading provider of collaborative product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions for the value chain , today announced the availability of MatrixOne Designer Central, a comprehensive workgroup design application that allows product designers and their extended supply chains to manage the design process and collaborate from one central application, regardless of the design tools they are using. MatrixOne Designer Central eliminates the need to support multiple CAD workgroup data managers.
MatrixOne Designer Central allows users to create workspaces for simple ad hoc collaboration between project team members. Through its unique and open architecture, the new MatrixOne Designer Central application can be deployed and supported from a central location, while the file locations can be distributed and synchronized around the world. From their native electrical or mechanical design applications, designers can easily access product design information that is vaulted in MatrixOne PLM, and, with local workspace management on their own desktop, users can easily compare work-in-progress to the master designs in MatrixOne.
With MatrixOne Designer Central's collaboration capabilities, needless design iterations can be eliminated and real-time viewing and markup of designs can occur even in the absence of the native design tools originally used in the designs. Meetings can be scheduled to securely review design content provided as part of the meeting, while discussion threads and markups allow for the capture of innovative thoughts in a natural, informal way without restricting end user creativity.
Most companies today are tasked with driving high-quality products to market as quickly and inexpensively as possible, often with limited resources. To achieve this, companies need to tightly align the design-related activities between globally dispersed development teams, suppliers, and customers. Without having a way to manage design globally as one business process, errors frequently occur as product development team members are unable to recognize the impact of design changes until it is too late.
"Designer Central allows our customers to design right the first time, by allowing early visibility and feedback to everyone involved in the design process," said Sam Zawaideh, senior vice president, products and solutions, MatrixOne. "By providing real-time access to product designs, companies can enhance collaboration across the value chain, speeding time to market and cutting development costs."
With MatrixOne Designer Central users can:
- Provide work-in-process data management across all popular mechanical and electrical design tools
- Visually collaborate around the design information or other information related to the design
- Schedule meetings for review at any step in the development process
- Securely provide design information to suppliers and customers
- Create private and public workspaces for organizing and sharing designs
- Manage local workspaces in the context of the PLM system
- Upload complex, multi-tiered, design hierarchies into MatrixOne
- Recursively check out complex, multi-tiered designs into the CAD tool, or onto disk
- Apply full revision and version control to all design models
- Alert users with design change notifications to their current work
